A charming take on the Urban Fantasy genre that manages to bring New York to life within your mind. Just make sure your mind stays in your head and isn’t eaten by a zombie!

The Shambling Guide to New York City

Zoe Norris is a human returning to her hometown in disgrace, wishing to get a new job in publishing. After many strikeouts, she finds the perfect-sounding job, only it happens to be at a publishing company that writes travel books for monsters.

Oh yeah, and monsters are real, too.”

Focusing on a travel guide editor who’s life has just undergone a major upheaval and is now desperate for work, this charming novel follows Zoe as another side to New York is brought into focus before her.

The Shambling Guide To New York City is full of subtle humour and whimsy, presenting a wide-eyed introduction to all of the creatures that go bump in the night… and day. It’s wonderfully well written, well paced and full of little travel guide snippets.

A lot of fun to read, and it makes you think just how hard it must be to get on with life… after death. This book is very enjoyable and charming, you should read it!

The Author, Mur Lafferty has already written a second book in this world focusing on New Orleans. (I’ve already purchased it and am about a third of the way through it) I just hope she writes more!
