Review: Nice Dragons Finish Last by Rachel Aaron. (Heartstrikers #1)

Don’t you just hate it when all you want to do is stay hidden away in your room reading or play on-line games? Isn’t it annoying when your Mother out of sheer megalomania/spite – drags you out of your comfort zone to do chores, get a job, make a name for yourself, conquer a set career path for the glory of your Dragon Clan – Or promise to eat you if you fail?

If you have suffered any of those torments, Julius Heartstriker feels your pain.

The smallest and the youngest Dragon from J clutch, an Introvert at heart and kicked out of his comfort zone and dumped into the one place on the planet where being a Dragon is a crime punishable by death! Julius has to think fast if he’s going to survive the night – let alone the rest of the week!

This book is a wild ride, through a very different world than we live in now. Set in a brilliantly realized future Detroit, decades after a meteor triggers a magical apocalypse and returns magic to our world – waking up all of the spirits and monsters from our myth and past.  Make sure the chair you sit in has a comfy edge, as your going to be spending some time on it!

Blending elements of Sci-Fi with Urban Fantasy and Fantasy – this series blurs the lines between genres in a pleasing and workable way.

This is the amazing first book in The Heartstriker series by Rachel Aaron (Author of The Eli Monpress fantasy series). It’s Vivid, atmospheric and amazing! I loved it so much! The brilliant cover art was by Anna Steinbauer and it is all just so great! I gave this book 5 stars on Goodreads and love it so much! I’ve actually purchased the ebook twice, once on Nook and once on Kindle – As well as buying a physical copy!

Check it out now If you love Urban Fantasy, Dragons, SF or just good books and stories in general! You won’t be disappointed! (Available from Amazon in ebook, audio and physical formats.)

As the smallest dragon in the Heartstriker clan, Julius survives by a simple code: keep quiet, don’t cause trouble, and stay out of the way of bigger dragons. But this meek behavior doesn’t fly in a family of ambitious magical predators, and his mother, Bethesda the Heartstriker, has finally reached the end of her patience.

Now, sealed in human form and banished to the DFZ–a vertical metropolis built on the ruins of Old Detroit–Julius has one month to prove that he can be a ruthless dragon or kiss his true shape goodbye forever. But in a city of modern mages and vengeful spirits where dragons are considered monsters to be exterminated, he’s going to need some serious help to survive this test.

He only hopes humans are more trustworthy than dragons…”

~ Goodreads Description.

nb: I originally read this book in 2014 when It was first released. I’m trying to put up reviews of all the books I’ve loved in one place (This blog).
